What is in annex schools in UCE 2022
According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), schools that have exceeded the maximum number of 499 candidates at their main center may apply for an annex center. Both the main center and the annex center must be located on the same campus or in the same geographical area. Once an annex center is established, it may not be used until the main center reaches capacity.
Many schools with large student populations have established annex centers to accommodate the overflow of students. However, the registration process for students at these annex centers tends to follow a syndicated pattern. Despite this, the data suggests that students at the main centers perform better on exams than those at the annex centers. This was demonstrated in the case of St. Mary's Secondary School Annex in Kitende, where only 31% of candidates scored a Division 1, compared to 92% at the main center. This results in a overall Division 1 pass rate of 76%, which could potentially lower the school's ranking in the country.
It is worth noting that the highest-performing student at any of the annex centers only scored a C3 on their biology exams
