About the event

The UG Design Summit will facilitate the showcasing of design outputs from Africa. It is also hinged on a successful Kampala International Design Conference (KIDEC) which was held in Kampala from 21st -24th July 2015.

UG Design Summit intends to offer a broad exchange of ideas by academia, design researchers and practitioners, and stakeholders from a variety of perspectives, disciplines, and fields across Africa and beyond.

Under the theme: “Weaving an Afrikan Design Mat”, the summit enables us to share design experiences and innovations woven by our diverse cultures, to gain a better understanding of this world and how we as human beings are woven into it through design inputs and design outputs, provides another opportunity for Afrika to showcase its design-driven warp and weft pattern of creative threads through Paper presentations, Keynote speakers, Exhibition and the Design fireplace (Ekyoto) for debating in a forensic manner some key topics that affect design research in Afrika.

TargetThe summit will host scholars and designers from different industries including Advertising, Fashion, Interior, Photography, Illustrators and Animators, Product design, craft practice, Engineers, Technology, Ceramicists, Jewellery, Architecture, and Weaving among others.
