About our school

A healthier community for everyone.

We exist to improve people-centred care and wellbeing of the people through education, research and community service.

Our Philosophy

We are guided by the philosophy of “working with and not working for individuals, groups and society”, an approach that defines the corporate image of the initiators, faculty and students and is made visible through intra and extra-curricular activities. We believe that healthcare is a basic right and that every person should have access to quality healthcare regardless of social status, race, gender, age or disability.

Our values can be summarised in the acronym “DEPICT”

  • Discipline
  • Excellence
  • Professionalism
  • Integrity
  • Compassion
  • Team work

Our Institutional Objectives

  1. To produce suitably qualified nurses and midwives who can function and assume leadership responsibilities in preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative care at the hospital and community levels in all settings.
  2. To provide employment referrals and opportunities to the trained young generation of nurses and midwives to enable them to assume responsibility as better citizens in the society.
  3. To develop and deliver community health projects and ensure social responsibility for the greater good of the communities, to yield benefits for the social and economic wellbeing of the community.
  4. To foster partnerships and collaborations with public, private and civil society sectors and partners for sustainability of the school programs.

The Governing Council

The School Governing Council (GC) is comprised of elected and nominated members as well as the Head of School, who serves as an ex-officio member. The GC members serve as a resource for the support and growth of our School; providing strategic guidance and oversight of the operations, establishing and approving policies, and supporting long-range strategic planning to ensure BSNM’s bright future. They include representatives of the Board of Directors, District Local Government (Department of Health), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Sports, Clinical Attachment Sites (Bwera District Hospital) and the Community.
