About our school

Foundation and Mission: St. Theresa Girls Secondary School Bwanda stands as a testament to the visionary efforts of the Daughters of Mary (Bannabikira) community. In 1910, Bishop Henry Streicher and Mother Mechtilde, inspired by their belief in the equal importance of educating girls, founded the Daughters of Mary. In 1925, this vision materialized in the establishment of St. Theresa, named after St. Theresa of Child Jesus, with a focus on training Ugandan women as vernacular teachers.

Evolution and Purpose: Beginning as a Vernacular Teacher’s Training College, St. Theresa transformed into a Primary Teacher’s Training College and Junior Secondary School by the 1940s. With a commitment to self-reliance, it phased out the junior school, evolving into a Senior Secondary School. Notably, the institution remains entirely private, supported by the Daughters of Mary (Bannabikiira Sisters), relying on parent-paid fees for funding.

Leadership and Governance: The Mother General of the Daughters of Mary (Bannabikiira Sisters) leads the school's administration. The Board of Governors, elected by the Mother General, oversees critical aspects of governance. Comprising 16 members, the Board features the Finance and Academic & Disciplinary Committees. A collaborative effort includes the Parents and Teachers Association (P.T.A), reinforcing a strong community bond.

School Vision: To be the best learning centre for an upright all-round citizen for this nation and the world.

School Mission: To educate future leaders in academic, moral, and Christian conduct.

School Motto: For God’s Greater Glory.

St. Theresa Girls Secondary School Bwanda remains a beacon of educational excellence, empowering young women to become leaders with academic prowess, moral integrity, and a strong foundation in Christian values.
